The Book Club

So, today, a couple of my co workers and I decided that since we have such similar tastes in what we like to read that we would start a book club and I could use that as my focus for blogging, at least for the research part of the task for my master's cirriculum.

So, Maryann, Jacq, Julie, and I are going to start reading books together. It might take a bit to sync up because I just finished Dear John, and Maryann just started it and Jacq and Julie haven't read it yet. Julie is reading Water for Elephants, so that will be the next book our group reads. After that, probably Glass Castle, and then perhaps more Nicholas Sparks. Not sure yet. But regardless, it will be fun to have an outlet from work and the stress.

Reading relaxes me. It takes me to a completely different world where I do not have to think about what will happen next in my life or what needs to be done with school or work. I can let my mind just wander free and never think about it. I try to read several times a week, and lately, I've been trying to read every night before bed.

I just finished Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. It was the first book I had actually read by him. I usually just watch the movies. The movies are amazing. They all have a sad element to them that just makes your heart break, but that goes to show that there is emotion in his stories. My favorite movie is The Notebook. I have not read the book yet, but I think I'd like to. Dear John was an amazing book. It was very easy to read but it broke my heart. The story was sweet, but then as I kept reading, it was just so sad yet heartwarming.  In the spirit of Nicholas Sparks, the entire story did not let down those who have a tendency to become really involved in the story (like me).  Everything about the characters is something someone somewhere can connect with.

I am not sure what books we will eventually end up reading, but I think Nicholas Sparks might be our focus for a little while.  He has such a clean, efficient way of writing, and it truly is enjoyable to read his work.

I am thinking after Water for Elephants and Glass Castle, we might delve into The Choice or the Lucky One, or perhaps the Bend in the Road.  Maybe we'll revisit some books of Nicholas Sparks' that were created into movies already like The Notebook (one of my favorites) or A Walk to Remember (another favorite of mine).

Well, after an exhausting day of work, and a relaxing evening ahead, I will leave you for now.  Until next time I bid you adieu!

  3. So..I finished Dear John this past Thursday night and I was sad how it ended. However I watched the movie on Sunday and I like how a few things were changed around, I won't say too much as not everyone has watched the movie.
